Natalie wood has a crush on an older boy (they are both in the same act that her mother represents)and there is a small scene where she and this boy interact in the alley where they both talk about their dreams and who they would like to have as their partners in an act and natalie thinks he is talking about her and you can see the hope and longing that she feels for this boy,only to find out she is mistaken and he runs off with her sister.
