What does iron do for me during the teenage years?

Just curious. Does iron do anything during the teenage years? If so, what? Also, what other nutrients are MOST essential during these years? Where can I find them? What do they help with? What does iron do for me during the teenage years?
The mineral iron is especially important in the production of red blood cells. Typically if some is anemic, their iron level is low. Iron is naturally occurring in foods where they are absorbed better by the body. Other important nutrients would be your A, B, C and D minerals.
